Who we are

A family business, now in its second generation

Architectural Supplements LLC (ASI) is privately held and family owned. Philip Feinman bought the company in the 1990s and rebuilt it into a planter manufacturer. His son Jason joined in 2020 after earning his MBA at Harvard Business School, and has run ASI as CEO since 2022.

We are a small team and we like it that way. We grow on purpose: better products, new markets, and long working relationships with the people who specify and install our work.

Design it well. Build it responsibly. Back up our partners every time.

How we make our products

Our own factory. American finishing.

ASI owns its factory in Fujian, China. We built it, we run it, and we hold it to American quality standards. Every planter then comes to our US facilities, where we inspect it, paint it in the color you choose and ship it. Owning each step is what makes paint-to-order possible.

  1. Made in our own factory

Produced at ASI's wholly owned facility in Fujian, China.

  2. Inspected and stocked in the US

Received, checked and warehoused in Waterbury, CT or Bakersfield, CA.

  3. Painted to order

Finished in one of 46 standard colors or matched to your custom color.

  4. Shipped from the closest facility

Shorter transit times and lower freight costs for your project.

Our history

60+ years of design, grit and starting over

  1. 1960s

Founded in the Bronx, New York

ASI traces its roots to Spanish-born architect and industrial designer Paul Mayén, whose work is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Mayén worked closely with Edgar Kaufmann Jr., heir to Fallingwater, and designed the estate's visitor pavilion. His companies, Habitat, Intrex and later Architectural Supplements, made aluminum planters and furniture with the clean lines and honest materials architects wanted. That approach still shapes our work.

  2. 1996

    New ownership

After a period under Swiss furniture maker de Sede, ASI merged with Robert Charles Products, owned by Philip Feinman. Philip and his future partner Steven Decker began running the company from Danbury, CT.

  3. 1997

    A planter company, full stop

Philip and Steven bought the remaining shares, added in-house fiberglass production and sold the furniture division. From then on, ASI made plant containers and nothing else.

  4. 2001

    Starting over

The downturn after September 11 hit the interiorscape industry hard. ASI rethought its product line and its supply chain, and that set up everything that came next.

  5. 2007

Our own factory in Fujian, China

ASI opened a factory it fully owns. Running our own fiberglass production to Western quality standards put us back at the top of the market, and injection-molded planters made from post-consumer plastic widened the range.

  6. 2012

    Natures Green in the Netherlands

ASI launched Natures Green B.V., led by Dutch interiorscape veteran Robert VanAerts. It now leads the Benelux market for indoor living walls, and it is how our NextGen living wall system came to North America.

  7. 2020

    The second generation

Steven Decker retired and Philip Feinman became sole owner. His son Jason joined as COO after Harvard Business School, making ASI a second-generation family business focused on new markets and new products.

  8. Today

Built to be here for the long run

Two ownership changes, a national crisis and a full manufacturing rebuild later, ASI has a global footprint and a family in charge. When you specify ASI, you are working with a company that plans to be around for decades.
